Title: Data and Policing: Influencing Policy and Decision-making through data

Abstract:

London is a growing and diverse global city, the capital of the United Kingdom (UK), and home to many national institutions, government buildings and company headquarter, and therefore faces significant challenges to keep its many visitors, tourists, commuters and residents safe.
In London the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction for policing and safety, through the Police and Crime Plan. MOPAC is responsible for overseeing police performance, budgets and resources in the capital and commissioning a wide range of services, which includes tackling violent crime by working closely with police officers, neighbourhoods and communities to delivering programmes across London, which aims to keep children safe and reduce violence against women and girls.
To do this MOPAC contains the largest dedicated research unit of any Police Force or PCC in the UK. This unit provides the evidence base the mayor requires to inform his decision making.
